Comments:
Vertu Motors is a holding company for various car dealerships with small interests in vans and motorcycles along with fleet and parts services.
Bristol Street Motors provides the mainstream brands and various smaller franchises cover Land Rover, Jaguar, Infiniti, Audi and Mercedes.
Although the group is listed on the AIM it does have a capitalisation of around £180m and what I find attractive is not just that the group is profitable and is paying dividends but the management all come from environments where paying dividends is the norm.
In fact the whole business exists to expand by buying established dealerships rather than expanding individual franchises, so it has doubled in size between 2012 and 2016. Revenue going from £1.8bn to £2.4bn and profits going from £6.7m to £27m.
As the group is not focused on a single frachise there is a lot of room for the ambitious management team to find profitable growth, this along with a willingness to share with shareholders suggests a main index listing soon and the share price support that comes with that.
My only real concern is that we are getting close to one manufactuer coming up with a cheap and viable hybrid or fully non petrol/diesel power unit in the small city car maket and this alone becoming the key purchasing decision, this could easily wipe out the competition.
